We were inspired by the smell of old wood and the feel of antiques for this gorgeous master suite remodel. Our clients have demanding careers and were looking to update their master bath to create both an inspiring place to prepare for hectic work days as well as one to unwind in at the end of the day. Luckily – we live in Louisville, Kentucky, where artisans abound. We worked closely with the craftspeople at Burkhart Company with our drawn-up cabinet designs and they helped to bring them to life. We love the attention to detail they put in all of their work. We started with the idea that the cabinets should look more like pieces of well-loved furniture that has been curated over a number of years rather than brand new pieces. We very lightly distressed the mahogany to soften the details where there would have been sharp edges otherwise. The mahogany we collectively selected for these was perfect. The graining is continuous on the flat panel vanity and the classic details of the rounded corners and legs soften the cabinetry and give it a furniture like feel. We couldn’t think of a better option than the white marble top that follows the same curves of the cabinetry below. The hardware is from Modern Objects and is antique brass with embossed leaves. The freestanding tub is from Victoria + Albert and the plumbing fixtures are from Brizo. The mosaic floor tile in the shower is from Jeffrey Court and adds to the classic element of this relaxing and elegant bathroom. The wallpaper in the toilet room is from Schumacher and is a soft blue sisal which complements the adjacent master bedroom’s light blue walls and accents. We added a soft natural wool area rug from Patterson Flynn Martin in the bedroom along with custom drapery panels with fabric from Colefax and Fowler, and custom pillows from Louisville’s pillow genius, Hollie Rich of Stuck on Hue. Who wouldn’t want to relax in this space? Ahhhhhhh…
